School of the Americas

Last weekend we woke up at 5:00am to go to Fort Benning, GA. Joel and I have heard many things about the School of the Americas and its yearly vigil but this was our first time experiencing it.

Thousands of Crosses

The crosses we carried had names of people killed by soldiers trained at the SOA. Sunday morning was a time of remembering these people in a memorial service. As each name was called the crowd responded with “Presente”. Their spirits were there with us. We walked the crosses to the gate of the army base and left them there along with the thousands of others.
