This morning we woke up to howling winds, blowing snow, and dropping temperatures. After 4 weeks of superb winter weather the real Canadian winter has caught up to us – on the day we were to fly out. We knew the roads would be bad so started for Winnipeg early (it is normally an hour drive from Joel’s parents’ place). Visibility was almost non-existent thanks to a flat prairie with no trees as windbreakers. After 30 minutes of slow-going we were came upon an emergency vehicle and were turned around – the highway was closed. And so we repeat our mantra when unexpected things happen: This is practice for Sudan.
New official departure date: Tomorrow! January 26
