Prayer for Peace in Sudan

A prayer from MCC BC

For January 9, 2011, Referendum Day

Lord Jesus, you said to us: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world
gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” And so we pray today, believing that
peace is possible even where it seems impossible. Lord, in your mercy…

Response: Bring your peace.

We pray for our brothers and sisters in Sudan, as they participate in the referendum today, that the
process will be free from violence, your peace will prevail, that your Spirit will guide, that you will grant
wisdom needed to choose a future where your peace will be reality. Lord, in your mercy…

Response: Bring your peace.

We pray for the church in Sudan, for those in leader ship and those in the congregation, that they
continue to be bearers of the Good News and serve as examples of the peacemakers we are called to
be. Lord in your mercy…

Response: Bring your peace.

We pray for all those in Sudan who, because of violence and conflict, have lost family members, have
suffered torture, have been displaced, or have become impoverished. We pray that in the midst of grief
and loss that your peace, which passes all understanding, would be felt. Lord, in your mercy…

Response: Bring your peace.

We pray for all the safety of all peacemakers in Sudan who are working to resolve conflicts and foster
peace and reconciliation in their neighbourhoods and communities. We pray for the safety of all MCC
staff and other humanitarian aid workers as they feed and care for those in need. Lord, in your mercy…

Response: Bring your peace.

We pray for all those in leadership in Sudan that You, Lord, would guide their decisions and deliberations
and their work to ensure peace for the people of Sudan. Lord, in your mercy…

Response: Bring your peace.

For those of us gathered here, help us to be bearers of peace in our own communities as we walk with
our sisters and brothers in Sudan, so that we all will be called peacemakers and children of God. Lord, in
your mercy…

Response: Bring your peace.

Amen.
